It has been
a full year since Shay joined us in our Estimating department as a Trainee
Estimator, whom you might have already worked with, and we think it’s time to
properly introduce him.
Why did
you decide to start work at Midtherm?
Shay: "I
decided to apply for the role at Midtherm when I realised my previous job
wasn’t bringing me much satisfaction. After interviewing with Adam, I left
feeling like it was somewhere I really wanted to work – the job felt
meaningful, it was in an industry I’m genuinely interested in, and everyone I
met was friendly and easy to get along with.”
What
have you learned since joining Midtherm?
Shay: "I learn something new pretty much every day, so it’s
hard to pick out just one thing – everything has felt important in its own way.”
What do you enjoy most about the job?
Shay: "I really enjoy the team I work with and getting the
chance to go on site visits. It’s a nice change of pace from the office, I get
to meet clients face-to-face, and it helps develop my drawing and survey skills
too.”
Any
notable projects you’ve worked on?
Shay: "One
of the standout projects for me has been a job at an RAF base. I got to attend
the site with John before putting together the quote, being escorted around the
airbase to the plantroom was a really unique experience. It’s not something I
ever expected to be doing as part of my job.”
What are
your hobbies outside of work?
Shay: "Outside of work I’m usually at the gym. I used to be around
140kg (just over 22 stone) so getting into fitness was a big turning point for
me. I’ve stuck with it ever since – these days it’s less about the weight loss
and more about enjoying the routine, catching up with my mates and blowing some
steam off after work.
I’ve also been doing Muay Thai for around 6 months now and I’m
hooked on it. It’s definitely the hardest sport I’ve tried but that makes it
more rewarding. It’s great for my fitness, keeps me focused, and like the gym,
it’s also been a great way to meet new people and have a good laugh outside of
work. Apart from fitness I like going out with my brothers and my friends on a
weekend.”
We’re proud
to have Shay on our team and look forward to many more milestones together.
